Beverly's Update, September 2024

Happy 20+ Anniversary to The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm
Thank you to all who came to celebrate with us on August 25, 2024. It was a great afternoon/evening and now we look forward to 20?+ more years. My incredible staff did an excellent job setting up the venue and getting everything ready. The food was a hit, especially Ivan and his corn and Sean and his gazpacho and grilled cheese!!! Bonnie, our farmer, did an excellent job with the farm, Loren's flowers were so beautiful and Chef Colby, Josh and Mykel's food was over the top. I enjoyed dancing and interacting with the guests, although I felt I didn't have time to speak with everyone.
Lots happening at the farm now that we are in our last days of Summer and the first days of Fall. The children have returned to school and we are thankful for all the dedicated teachers. Even with the hot, dry days of August, we are still planning on a Fall harvest. Figs have been in abundance. We pick them each day and are savoring their deliciousness!! They may be winding down and then paw paws come into season. Thankfully, we have had rain to help with all the vegetables. The fall squash, beets, radishes, carrots, turnips, cabbages, spinach, beans and more are either bining harvested, started or planted. It is getting to be the time to gather up the summer harvest, continue planting for our Fall crop and prepare for the winter months. We will be planting garlic the end of September into the first of October. The changing seasons are one of the great things about farming - the variations in produce and the changes in the menu in the restaurant keep things interesting. Johnny Appleseed Day is September 26 so I guess it will be time for apples, apples and more apples. The Harvest Moon, also a supermoon is on September 17.
Let's celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and I read somewhere that it is National Happy Cat Month. September 13 is Children Take Over the Kitchen Day - that could be very interesting. And, let's all celebrate Chef Colby's birthday on September 27!!
September 22 marks the start of Fall, the autumnal equinox - equal hours of daylight and darkness!

The patio is available for dining, if you desire, offering a magnificent view and relaxing atmosphere. We hope to keep it open well into the Fall. Whether sitting in our glass conservatory, gazebo or open-air tent, the view overlooking the Potomac River never disappoints. A tranquil setting, inspired by nature with a breathtaking view. Join us for a celebration of the connection between kitchen and earth. Each course presents inspiration for the seasons and harmony with the earth. The chefs draw from what the region has to offer, crafting a tasting menu with what our farm and local farmers, fishermen and foragers provide. The elemental base of fresh ingredients serves as inspiration for our contemporary cuisine. Regardless of the season, you will experience local, organic cuisine that "excites your palate and nourish your soul"®
