Beverly's Update, May 2025

a close up of a green plant

Happy Mother's Day to the incredible mothers, grandmothers, aunts, pet moms, single moms, step moms, chosen mom and mentors and those dads who are moms - you are teachers, comforters and guide with willing hands that assist, and the best kind of friend - you are full of compassion, love and strength.

May has brought an explosion of azaleas, redbuds, lilacs and dogwoods providing more beauty than imaginable.  Radishes, spinach, kale, tatsoi, mizuna, hakeri turnips, cabbage, kale, greens, beets, broccoli raab and almost snow peas (if we can keep them long enough so the chef doesn't use all the pea shoots!) are filling our baskets.  Chives, basil, chive blossoms, dill, rosemary and anise hyssop are becoming available.  Strawberries have flowered and asparagus and spring onions are on the menu.  Soon we will have rhubarb, blueberries and black raspberries.  The season has begun and we are super excited about the harvest.  The excitement of planning for a summer of flowers, scrumptious vegetables and herbs stimulate us.  Although this is one of the busiest times of the year, it is also one of the most rewarding.  Bonnie could use three of her.  She is unbelievable.  If you would like and are serioius about REALLY working, she may consider some assistance.  Sunshine and hard work give many rewards.

We have planted - tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, cucumbers, eggplant and more.  Just about any edible plant will soon go into the ground.  Each day brings with it a new element for the menu sourced directly from our farm.

The patio is open and if you desire, you may have a seat outdoors.  The view overlooking the Potomac never ceases to amaze.  Regardless of the season, you will experience local, organic cuisine.  A tranquil setting, inspired by nature, the venue presents a breathtaking view and natural setting overlooking the Potomac River.

Whether sitting in our glass conservatory, gazebo or open-air tent, the view overlooking the Potomac River never disappoints.  Join us for a celebration of the connection between kitchen and earth.  Each course presents inspiration for the seasons and harmony with the earth.  The chefs draw from what the region has to offer, crafting a tasting menu on what our farm and local farmers, fishermen and foragers provide.  We strive to excel at turning ordinary evenings into extraordinary ones.  There are personalized touches throughout your dining experience that will excite your palate and nourish your soul®

Please support your local farmers.  Thank them, the artisan producers, wineries and breweries that work with so much pride to provide you and us with outstanding products.  There is no substitute for the simple pleasures that "real" food can provide to your body.

It continues to be our honor to welcome you to the restaurant.

Enjoy the planting season and the impending harvest. All of you, guests and staff alike are the light of our extended family, the heart of our restaurant, and the most important people who touch our lives continuously.

Beverly

As ye sow, so shall ye reap, sometimes!

Raising vegetables is a rewarding experience and infinitely easier (sometimes)than raising children.

I can handle garden needs:  Spray water, pull weeds,

And if the sun doesn't shine, who can say the blame is mine?

The Garden gives me joy - (my children provide much joy also in so many different ways)

My nerves it doesn't jar - (well most of the time)

And it never wants the car!

Of course, when I'm old - (which I have acheived)

My garden won't take me in,

But, on the other had,

It won't put me in an assisted living home either! " ( I know my children won't do that to me - at least I don't think so)

Pat Myren (I added some remarks to the original)
