Every crisp morning, I wake with lots of anticipation about the upcoming growing season.  A time filled with new goals, new challenges and new opportunities.  The best part about farming is working with nature - there are changes all the time.  The challenge is to work with the environment while making adjustments, keeping it constantly interesting.  I believe this is going to be the best year ever - no drought, the rain will come when it's supposed to and all the crops will get planted in record time.  We are looking ahead to planting and focusing on the nuances in the worlds of sustainable agriculture, clean food, our environment, pollinator protection and simply growing good, nutritious food.  Most of our seeds have arrived and now the impatience begins as we wait for the soil to warm enough to put them in the ground.

February - the only month with fewer than 30 days.  Typically, the snowiest month - that is true right now!!  The groundhog saw his shadow so winter is predicted to last six more weeks.  Of course, I did read that impartial estimates place the groundhog's accuracy between 35% and 40%.  Let's hope so because I am ready for Spring.

February 12 - Chinese New Year - the Year of the Ox

       February 15 - Susan B. Anthony's Birthday - a true advocate for women's rights

February 15 - President's Day - although it was previously known as Washington's Birthday - which George celebrated on February 22

February 16 - Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday" or Shrove Tuesday which is the final feasting day before the Christian tradition of Lent begins.  We ate lots of pancakes either made by my Dad (or we went to the local firehouse) - I carried on the tradition at our home.

February 27 - full moon - called the Snow Moon

Folklore says if there are fogs in February it could mean frost in May.

MOTHER'S DAY - MAY 9, 2021

From the earth and farm to your table, we offer you a rare experience with a breathtaking view and natural setting overlooking the Potomac River.  Each course presents inspiration for the seasons and harmony with the earth.  The chefs draw from what the region has to offer, crafting a changing progressive menu on what our farm, local farmers, fishermen and foragers provide.  The elemental base of fresh ingredients serves as an inspiration for the chefs' contemporary cuisine.
