Building a 1000 Star Wine List The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm has crafted this wine list by carefully examining white and red varietals from different countries and regions within countries. Soil conditions and minerals, sun and cloudiness, daytime and nighttime temperatures, and the amount of rainfall in the right combinations contribute to growing good wine grapes. For instance, the soils in warmer climates of Australia and South Africa produce high quality reds such as Shiraz (Syrah) with full ripe fruity flavors of dark plum. Cooler climates in the same countries produce quality Chardonnays with medium to strong ripe fruity flavors of apple and melon. The Rhone region of France produces an outstanding Chenin Blanc. New Zealand's Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc took the world by storm. Here at home, Loudoun County wineries are known for world-class Cabernet Franc. Once the grapes are harvested, the winemaker determines the flavor through the aging process. Aging in stainless steel allows the flavors to the grape to clearly come through. Aging in oak adds flavors and changes the wine's intensity. For instance, Chardonnay wines from France are aged in stainless steel, while Chardonnay wines from California are aged in oak. To provide you with the widest selection, we offer our wines three ways: wine pairings, by the glass and by the bottle. Wine pairings provide a truly exciting experience. The aroma, textures and taste of food and wine alone are intriguing. Sampling a wine paired with each course creates a whole new dining dimension. Wines by the glass are available for certain selections on the wine list. We alternate selections regularly to provide greater choice. We hope that you will enjoy our selections. |
