Dry, full strong flavors of ripe fruits, dark plums and currants. Smooth rich finish. Wine Spectator 90 Stolpman 2001 La Croce, Santa Ynez Valley, CA. The vibrancy, nerve and tannic strength of Sangiovese and the lush enveloping dark, wild fruits of cooler climate Syrah together in a wine of great complexity. Fermented in small French oak barrels with layers of mocha, chocolate, strawberries, coffee and berries that are generous and concentrated. Stark 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, South Africa. A rich powerful wine balanced by soft tannins with flavors and aromas of cocoa powder and blackcurrant cassis and a soft, harmonious finish. Robert Sinskey Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Franc, Napa Valley, California. Organically farmed Vandal vineyard in northern Carneros. Its flavors ally with its aromatics by contributing layers of complexity with hints of sweet spice, licorice, pepper and cocoa. Assertive ripe tannins. Carol Shelton 2004 Wild Thing Old Vines Zinfandel, Mendocino County, CA Organically grown. Uninoculated yeast fermentation. Intensely jammy, black raspberry fruit, vibrant and alive in both nose and mouth, nice hint of black pepper. Smoothly textured in mouth, creamy vanilla oak. Finish is long. Beautifully balanced wine of elegant proportions. Woodward Canyon 2005 Columbia Valley Merlot, Walla Walla Valley, Washington. Ripe and peppery, with a smoky edge to the generous cherry, plum and licorice flavors, lingering effectively on the round finish. Medium-full to full-bodied, a generous mid-palate with youthful tannins, ample, but nicely integrated oak and lively acidity. Michael Shaps 2005 Petit Verdot, Monticello, Virginia. Blackberry, cherry, clove and a hint of pepper. Stylish, well-polished with plenty of fruit to give it balance and structure. Mellow with a long, silky finish.
