“take a Bite out of Childhood Hunger”

Share Our Strength’s Great American Dine Out is a week-long event that brings together thousands of restaurants and millions of consumers to help make sure there is no child hungry in American. This is a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.

Increasing participation in school food and nutrition programs
Increasing the number of community gardens
Food banks and food pantries
Increasing utilization of federal child food and nutrition programs
Advocacy around Child food and nutrition-related programs

Did you Know…
Research tells us that even slight experiences with hunger can leave lasting negative impressions that impair health, learning and well-being. Hungry kids…
_ are sick more often, recover more slowly and are more likely to be hospitalized
_ are also more susceptible to obesity and its harmful health consequences.
_ are less able to concentrate and perform well in school.
_ have more behavioral and emotional problems.

And young children (under the age of 3) who don’t get enough healthy food cannot learn as much, as fast or as well as their well-nourished friends.

In effect, a person who struggles with hunger as a child suffers life-long disadvantages.

No Kid Hungry provides millions more meals to needy children through school breakfast, afterschool and summer meal programs; started or supported meal sites that fed tens of thousands of kids; removed transportation, language and administrative barriers to nutrition programs that families often face; found creative ways to bring affordable fresh foods to low-income neighborhoods; and helped thousands of low-income families learn how to eat better for less.

During this week, we will designate a portion of our sales to raise funds to end childhood hunger. Help Share Our Strength surround the millions of kids at risk of hunger in America with nutritious food where they live, learn and play.
